Litha

Litha is the Summer Solstice and is also known as Midsummer. It falls on or around 21st June but varies somewhat from the 20th to the 23rd, dependant upon the Earth’s rotation around the Sun. According to the old folklore calendar, Summer begins on Beltane (May 1st) and ends on Lughnassadh (August 1st), with the Summer Solstice midway between the two, marking MID-Summer. This makes more logical sense than suggesting that Summer begins on the day when the Sun’s power begins to wane and the days grow shorter. The most common other names for this holiday are the Summer Solstice or Midsummer, and it celebrates the arrival of Summer, when the hours of daylight are longest.
The power of the Sun is at its greatest at this time, ripening the crops and providing us with plenty of food. Midsummer has a long tradition of being magically powerful and many plants and herbs should be collected now as they are filled with the energy of the Sun.
One of the names for the Moon at Midsummer is “Honey Moon” as this is a time when the hives are rich with honey. The honey can be fermented and made into a traditional Midsummer drink called “mead”.
The Midsummer fires are traditionally kindled from Oak and Fir and herbs are thrown into the fire to prevent sickness, bad luck and to help the crops grow. These herbs included: St. John’s Wort, Heartsease, Lavender, Chamomile, Geranium, Thyme and Pennyroyal. Livestock was once driven through the embers of these fires to ward off disease and illness.
Archangel Michael

Michael, whose name means “He who is like God”. His main function includes getting rid of the fear and energies, and assisting with your career and purpose. Below are some of the ways in which Archangel Michael can help.
Automatic Writing
Channelled or automatic writing is a tool that allows you to connect with your higher self, angels, or other spirit guides. Through a process of writing questions and receiving answers, you can gain insight about life areas that are important to you.
Archangel Michael is often utilized during automatic writing because of his strong presence and powerful messages.
Cord Cutting
Cutting cords of negativity is vital to maintaining a state of wellness and positive energy.
These cords form when you connect with other people, places, animals, or situations. The cords that are from love remain permanently embedded in your energy system. However, negative attachments, such as when you feel someone or something is “draining” you, can be severed and sealed at the ends to prevent re-occurrence.
Spiritual Protection
Calling upon angels for home or personal protection is simple and easy to do. Archangel Michael’s purpose is to protect the Earth from lower energies. You can think or say, “Archangel Michael, please come live with me and my loved ones. Protect us, our homes, vehicles, and valuables so that no harm may pass by your loving alertness. Thank you.”
Angels and archangels are of the spiritual realm and can be in more than one place at once so asking him to help your friends and family is appropriate.
Eliminate Fears and Negativity
By removing fears and negative thinking, Archangel Michael can help boost your confidence and courage. This can work during an actual time you feel threatened or when you just need some extra faith and increase in self-esteem to perform a task or for emotional support. Call upon Michael to escort lower energies or entities to the divine light for transmutation and purification. You can ask him to help you feel safe and replace any sense of fear with love. Communicating your needs with Archangel Michael and being open to receiving his guidance and protection can help you live your life for the highest and best good.
If you notice sparks of bright blue or purple, Michael is probably showing his presence as he assists you.

Christmas trees that fill our homes
With fragrant Christmas scents,
Hearts filled with the loving glow
That Christmas represents.
Festive holly berries,
Little faces bright with joy,
Loved ones being merry
Parties, songs and gifts,
Silver bells that tinkle,
Christmas trees and ornaments,
Colourful lights that twinkle
These are some of the special joys
That come along with Christmas.
Yule
Yule or the Midwinter Solstice is the time of year when we experience our shortest day and longest night – the sun is at its lowest point in the sky at noon. Yule meaning ‘wheel’ is one of the oldest winter celebrations in the world.
Our ancestors celebrated the rebirth of the Sun god at Yule, and the expulsion of the evil winter spirits. The winter solstice was considered a mysterious and powerful time, for it is at this point the sun begins to make the return journey across our skies. After the longest night of the year the sun is seen as growing stronger and the return of the warmer season is welcomed – the concept of rebirth became strongly associated with the Winter Solstice.
It is a time to look on the past year’s achievements. The days will now grow longer up to the mid summer solstice.
The Yule Log – during medieval times, the decorated log was ceremoniously carried into the home on Christmas Eve, and placed in the fireplace. Traditionally the Yule log was lit with the saved stump of last year’s log, and then it was burnt over the twelve days of the winter celebration, and its ashes and stump were kept until the following year to sprinkle on the new log, so that the fortune would be passed on from year to year.
Yule wreaths were traditionally made of evergreens and holly and ivy. Holly represents the female and ivy the male and the wreath’s circle symbolizes the wheel of the year. Both holly and ivy were used as protection in the home against bad spirits
